Diwakar is a serial entrepreneur and software product development pioneer in India. His very first venture Softek was one of the first product companies from India, specializing in system software and utilities for microprocessor based computer systems. At Newgen, his focus on image based workflow technology and the resulting products became a key enabler of the present day bank modernization and BPO. In addition to co-founding NASSCOM and being an early EC member he has led the organization's anti-piracy initiatives.

Diwakar Nigam wrote the BASIC interpreter for HCL 8C, the first computer designed and built by HCL.
