Dr. Ramani is credited with proposing an Indian Academic Network in 1983, which led to the launching of the ERNET project where R&D teams of many institutions participated. He was instrumental in creating the first-ever international connection from India through ERNET's central mail switch. This was later extended nationwide with domestic TCP/IP links, in essence connecting the country. He went on to be the Research Director at HP Labs India and is now an active technology blogger and Committee Member of Technology for Education Conference.Dr. S.
