As the founder member of NASSCOM, Harish Mehta tirelessly evangelized the Indian IT industry around the world and contributed to the research-based policy intervention route that the industry body took. He was the first President of TiE Mumbai and a Trustee on the TiE Global board and also served as an advisor to the American India Foundation (AIF). He is a co-promoter of Infinity Venture Fund focused on IT entrepreneurs. He was also a Managing Trustee of Trust to Promote Advanced Technologies in India (TPATI).

Harish was a founding member of the Hinditron team, and set up one of India's first data centers with a mini computer - the PDP 11.
