Prof. P V S Rao is a renowned Indian computer scientist. Prof. Rao is credited with contributions regarding the development of TIFRAC, the first digital electronic computer developed in India. He was involved with computer research activities at the University of Illinois and took part in the development of ILLIAC II. He led the development of OLDAP(Online Data Processor) computer. and He also led the Indian Air Defence Ground Environment System (ADGES) Air Defence Systems project which was one of the biggest IT projects undertaken in India. He is the author of three books on computers.

Prof. P V S Rao was a key architect of the ingenious adder design and the CRT display of TIFRAC.

Professional Career: Head of the Speech and Digital Systems Group and Head of the Computer Systems and Communications Group of TIFR, Chair Working Group on Computers of Electronics Commission, President of CSI, Chairman of All India Council of the Institute of Electronics and Electrical Engineering.

Education:Ph.D. in Physics from University of Mumbai, MSc from Banaras Hindu University, BSc from Utkal University.

Awards: Padma Shri, CSI Lifetime Achievement Award, Om Prakash Bhasin Award, Vikram Sarabhai Award, Distinguished Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Senior Member and Distinguished Visitor of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers.
